Women's safety in workplace

Women's safety and its issues are discussed and discussed around the world. Nevertheless, each year the number of reports of sexual harassment increases dramatically.

Men and boys, we show our masculinity by the way we treat our women. Colleagues, our wives, our sisters, our mothers.

-Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Over the past decade, women have gradually gained a higher level of employment. Women now occupy top positions and make up a large part of any global career.

Women are now more independent in every way. They are capable of caring for themselves and their families. They are better able to make their own choices in life and to live within their means.

However, women are daily harassed at work by their colleagues. After #metoo and # timesup in the U.S., many women come to tell their scary stories. Susan Fowler, a former Uber employee, described how her team manager abused her on the first day of work. The incident led to him leaving his team and eventually becoming Uber. Following the incident, many other complaints of harassment were lodged. In mid-2017, Uber fired 20 employees after investigating allegations of sexual harassment and workplace culture.

The statistics on sexual harassment in the workplace are very shocking. And it varies from place to place. According to a study, 81 percent of women have experienced sexual harassment in their lifetime.

Sexual abuse can lead to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, isolation, and damage to physical and mental health.

4 Ways to Ensure Women's Workplace Safety

1. Sexual Harassment Policy:

Any organization large/small must have a Definitely Sexual Harassment Policy:

Explain how to tolerate

Teach about misconduct

Describe the results

2. Create Awareness Among Employees:

It is unfortunate that many organizations and individuals, in general, are not aware of the safety of women in the workplace. It is very clear in statistics and cases of sexual harassment in the workplace.

Employee awareness of women's safety and health is important. You can use all possible strategies and ideas to spread awareness. Workshops, open-ended discussions, or activities can help raise awareness of women's safety in the workplace.

Health plans are important when it comes to the physical and mental health of your employees.

Awareness begins with the application of guidelines and laws against sexual harassment in the workplace. So without understanding the cause, you cannot stop any discrimination against women.

3. Encourage Women to Express:

Often, women who experience sexual harassment do not speak up. We as a society are responsible for this. We teach our little girls to behave in a certain way. From childhood, we give them a set of dos and don'ts. This situation eventually prevents women from expressing their feelings. They feel embarrassed and afraid of the consequences. Other reasons are insecurity and lack of knowledge.

You should encourage female employees to express themselves and get out of their misery. Try to increase their confidence by using equal opportunities for both male and female employees in the workplace. A sense of equality in the workplace will enable them to combat discrimination in society.

4. HR's Role:

HR needs to explain to employees about a safe working environment. She should also play the role of being the center to highlight any grievances and any issues of women in the higher authorities.

In the Workplace Education Program, HR needs to provide strict guidelines regarding the sexual harassment of new employees.

It is the responsibility of HR to bring to the notice any unacceptable behavior of employees who are subjected to senior management. As managers need to take impartial action, HR participation is very important here.

They also explain how to bring misconduct to someone who can do something about it. Therefore, they make sure that counseling and support are available.
